The bathroom is another perfect example of wasted energy in our homes.
1) When brushing your teeth, shaving, washing your hands or taking a bath, water flowing away because of taps left running. Only use water for rinsing!
2) With traditional toilet cisterns you cannot choose the volume of water, and most times flushing does not require a lot of water. It can cut costs and be more efficient to place a closed bottle filled with water in the water tank. This way you can save the quantity placed in the bottle each time you flush. And if needed you can just flush it twice. This way, a family of three can save up to 6-8 m3 of water a year.
3) If possible, change your toilet cistern to a two-button (geberit) tank.
4) Set your taps (including the shower) to let an appropriate volume of water flow!
Install Airforce One and EBF low flow aerators! Even without we realize it, the taps we currently have use a lot more water than we need.
5) It is recommended to use the washing machine in the evening as its power consumption makes up 10-15% of our energy bills. Best to fill it up each time! If you still need to wash a smaller quantity then choose the half-full energy saving mode! Heating water requires a lot of energy, so if possible, wash at lower temperatures! Detergents sold nowadays are efficient even at lower temperatures (30-40°C).
6) Set your water boiler to 45°C! No personal hygiene requires water warmer than that, and wall pipes with excessively warm water increase the loss of heat. By mounting an
EBF flow aerator on the flexible shower pipe you can reduce the volume of water to be heated, and therefore save energy again.
